PRO Tire Tech: EC's ExCavator cutting tips

A little while back, our friends at Decline Magazine (http://www.declinemagazine.com/) ran this awesome little article about Eric Carter's recommendations for optimizing the performance of his Signature Series tire, the ExCavator. Eric provided his suggestions for "tire-cuts" that will help the ExCavator perform better in different types of terrain. Click on the picture below to read the article.

*** Important things to note before, during and after you read this article:

  1. EC originally designed this tire to be adaptable should the end user choose to do so. These mods were built into the design of the tire - that's really forward thinking on his part in our opinion.
  2. Tire cutting isn't for everybody. You should have a good level of confidence in your mechanical abilities to attempt what is outlined below. In essence, gravity riders may be the only ones willing to perform and benefit from some of the tips listed here.
  3. Proper tools are required. Use the internet to study up on tire cutting and what tools are working for riders in the mountian bike community.
  4. Once you've done all of the research, sourced the proper tools, feel comfortable in your abilities and are determined to duplicate what's above, know that modifying or cutting your tires is done at your own risk. Kenda will not warranty tires in which the casing has been cut, knobs have worn prematurely, etc.

'tis the season!
